Beer Review: Cheap beer; guest review by bernie the beer baron
While tasting the 34 ounce 8.99$ beer I found it worth every bit of the 8.99$ charged for the 34 ounce 8.99$ beer. The taste didn't matter since the 34 ounce beer was only 8.99$.
The appearance of the 8.99$ 34 ounce beer seemed to be a bargain.
Logic and beer reviews varies inversely with beer consumption.
Rating: 3.5 out of 5
Would you buy a case of this beer: if possible hell yeah at 8.99 how could you go wrong.
was the beer hoppy: taste buds quit working half way though the glass
would you recommend this beer: if the price is right
if you noticed he never mentioned the beer at all. ....

Beer Review: Quidi Vidi Premium Lager
Well it is again time for another beer review.... Being in Newfoundland it just seems normal to be drinking an extreme amount of alcohol. This time the review will cover another one of Quidi Vidi brewery beers, Premium Lager.
Based on our beer tasting the premium beer ws created to compete with the molson Canadians of the world. It does this but so so much better.
the appearance is semi light, sort of a mix of a light beer and an amber beer. Pretend you mix white and dark chocolate and it comes out milk chocolate, thats what the beer looks like.
Taste, its smooth. Tastes like beer. That is all. But honestly there is no real hop taste and it does taste very similar to a molson Canadian.
If you are a fan of Canadian than you would really enjoy this beer.
Rating: 4 out of 5
Would you buy a 6 pack: yes I would and did. Personally I may buy a second case if I sober up enough to get another one.
Is it hoppy: nope not at all.

Beer Review: Quidi Vidi Iceberg Beer
It is yet again time for the team van go beer review!!! This edition takes place from the beautiful island of newfoundland.
The beer being reviewed is by a local microbrewery by the name of Quidi Vidi. The Iceberg beer like its name uses water from a real iceberg. Yep a real iceberg!
If you are ever in newfoundland you must stop by the brewery for a tasting.
The beer comes in a nice blue bottle which makes it visually appealing. When you pour the beer in a glass it has a very light appearance.
The taste, what can I say about it. ..... well awesome or fantabulous come to mind!!! Not hoppy at all but has a very smooth summer flavour. Just a pleasure to drink.
Smell.. well I never did smell it I just went straight to drinking.... im gonna assume it smelt like a glacier.....
Quote from Bernie: "not oftrn in life do you get the chance to piss out an iceberg"
Rating: 5 out of 5
Was the beer hoppy: nope not at all.
Would you buy a 6 pack: yup I would and did... actually bought 2 cases both are drunk and also had a lot from a tap...

Weekend Ride Review
Date: Sunday July 21st, 2013
Location: Dufferin Forest
Weather: Perfect!
On Sunday we had a great couple of rides in Dufferin forest... Weather was amazing, could not complain about anything at all.
The weekend ride consisted of 2 rides, the first was more of a training ride, plan was to do the whole manchulada, with little to no stopping... Mother nature on Friday had other plans for us. Tyler, Don, Chris and Johnny started out heading to the north of 20 trail. on the way there was new debris down, but as soon as we hit north of 20, a lot of fallen trees.. became more of a game, see how long until the next downed tree.
The loop of north of 20 took longer than planned as the 2nd ride was to start at 4pm... we did the mini manchulada instead, finishing with about 20km.. had a quick beer, then headed out on the 2nd ride.
The 2nd ride included, Tyler, Johnny, Karen, Lori, Lisa, Jacqueline and Max. Same idea as the first ride, Ken's, Steve's trail, down to the trail to nowhere, then bernie loop and out. Everyone rode the trails amazing, the new trees down on the trails did add a lot more fun rideable sections. only a couple downed trees that were not rideable, but everything else, with enough speed and commitment you could make.
Everyone were riding fiends on the trial tackling almost every obstacle with Karen and Lori riding over almost everything! Tyler and Johnny did fail once on the spotting and Jacqueline fell where no one was standing.... All in all though a great ride, no complaints at all. Company was great, riding was great, weather was perfect, and new trees down added some more fun to the whole ride!!!

Weekend Ride
Date: Sunday July 21st, 2013
Location: Mansfield (Dufferin Forest)
Start Time: TBD
This ride is going to be a bit of a training / fun ride. Tyler and maybe Johnny are going to head out a couple hours earlier to do the whole Manchulada no stops, but at a slow steady pace to train for the 9 and 8hrs coming up.
Then once back at the parking lot, a group ride. Anybody and everybody are welcome to join on the first section of the training ride. Average speed will probably be in the 12km area.... The idea of head out and go, everyone should know the trails, if not, skid marks or something will be left for visual..

Mountainview 9hr
Date: August 10th, 2013
Location: Midland
http://mountainviewmidland.com/new/?page_id=10
This is a small low key event up in Midland. Currently we have a solo rider, and a team of 3 entered under the team van go banner.
The nice part of this race is you get time bonus' for completing different tasks. ie. pie eating contest, bike limbo etc.
If you want to try an endurance race this one seems to be a good fit. Looking at the result last year there were 21 teams entered, 8 solo, 2 tag team and 11 3-4 person teams. Compared to the 8hr races, this one is cheap, if you register prior to the 25th of july you get a t-shirt too! Whats the worst that can happen right...
If you are planning on signing up let Tyler know, as we have Team Van Go Solo, and Team Van Go already used as team names. We could start then with Team Van Go get Beer, or Team Van Go for Another Lap, etc etc....

2x2 Cycles - Bike Rack Review
Hello hello,
I figure I'll throw up a new review on a product I have had sitting in my garage for a few months, waiting to install on my Suzuki SV650... It is a Mountain bike rack for a motorcycle.
This will now kill 2 birds with 1 stone, I can ride my motorbike, and still go to rides... a brilliant idea. It all started several years ago at an 8hr in Mansfield where a guy riding a Kawasaki showed up with his bike strapped to the back of it. I've been looking for a while reading reviews, and there only seems to be a couple people making them.
I bit the bullet over the winter and ordered it up, with attachments for the Heckler, the Rocky Mountain Element, as well as the FAT BIKE... I haven't mounted the fat bike yet, but I will, the picture will look ridiculous.
Anyways, with some back and forth between myself and Garrett at 2x2 cycles, we sorted everything out, and the unit was built and shipped within 2 weeks.
The finish of the rack is great, black powdercoating, with a lot of extra mounting holes so you can adjust the rack however you want to mount it to the motorbike. They make racks for any and every make of bikes which is great.
Installation was a breeze, as soon as I read the instructions... like everyone you have to struggle to figure it out before you read the instructions.... One note, all the allen bolts are standard and not metric, so before you try and finish assembly, make sure you have the right size allen keys...
Currently I have the bike rack fitted to the bike and it was pretty smooth to install and line up. Mounting the mountain bike to the motor bike was easy as well. You need to remove the front wheel from the bike, and it fits into a quick release system. The pedal then rests in a saddle which locks into place with a quick release system as well. The front wheel then sits beside the bike, as you utilize the quick release skewer from the wheel. Other than that, strap it down, put the flag on the back wheel and you are ready to rock and roll. I'm planning on making it a quick release idea to remove the rack easily, so it is not on the bike at all times.
All in all, definitely worth the money to be able to ride the motorbike to events now, and still be able to ride the mountain bike!!!

Weekend Ride Report: Kolapalooza
Date: Saturday July 6th, 2013
Location: Kolapore
Weather: Sunny and HOT
Tyler and Johnny headed up to Kolapore to conquer the Kolapalooza, which equates to pretty much every trail in Kolapore... Just shy of 30km, in about 3hrs, with an average speed of a whopping 11km/hr... As johnny said, it was no Albion ride...
Weather was great for the ride, sunny, hot and humid... Went out with full camelbaks, and needed to refill at Metcalf rock with the fresh water that was coming out of the ground.
Started with the normal route to the lookout. ran into a few hikers which were extremely friendly on the trail, which was nice. Everyone seemed to be in a good mood with the nice weather we had.
Had a lunch at the lookout and then headed down towards the waterfall. Took a different route towards Metcalf rock, instead of riding the road for 3km, we took a trail on shale rock. A lot of fun, and all pretty much rideable, except for a few hike a bike spots.
Filled the camelbacks, biked to Paradise highway, rode the trail, then off to Mount Delagary... i dont know how it's spelt... did the out and back, then through the tornado section and out. The trails were very very overgrown. A lot of hidden rocks. Started a count on paradise highway, hit over 5 hidden rocks.
After the ride, had a beer in the parking lot, then off to Creemore Pub for a pint and some food. Emily and Karen met us there, enjoyed the beer and food. A Great way to finish off the ride for sure!

Bromont Trip.....
Weekend of Canada Day
Bromont Quebec
We had a great group come out and play at Bromont!!! Tyler, Emily, Bernie, Ann, Moe, Jeff, Chrissy, Johnny, Karen, Mark, Karin, Ralph, Wendy, Derek, Kyle, Jenny, Colby and Rylee took over part of Camping Fairmont, for the weekend. Some arrived Friday the remaining Saturday, and the sh*# show began....
For anyone who hasn't been to Bromont it is a great place for the entire family, some people can ride, as others sit at the very adult orientated water park, complete with Bar, and waterslides that you can try and flip each other out of tubes etc....
Day 1.... Our first day consisted of a bit of an eye opener to the world of downhill riding. Please note that no one other then Kyle was on a bike really meant to go downhilling... most are on either all mountain or x-country... we decided to start with a green circle run... which turned out to be a lot more difficult than expected. Ann, and Moe both had falls and others were not too thrilled with the run... We than changed to the other green circle run to break people in, which turned out to be a great 5km downhill ride...
After the first run, everyone went off into different directions to conquer trails they wanted to, and some headed to the water park to sit and lounge...
The end of the day was capped off with the "Bonfire" which was pretty much a wood pile about 8-10ft in the air, all stacked with firewood... while sitting around the fire, the fireworks began... hillbilly fireworks to be exact. 2 guys lighting them up over the pond, right beside their cars... great show for sure, by the end both in sync and finished the show with lighting up everything they had left. After fireworks started music, with Ann and her guitar and a couple locals playing into the night... The night was a sign of things to come, drinking, music, and riding....
Day 2.... A great day with beautiful weather... Just like Saturday, the first run people tried to do a warm up... well most people... Johnny and Kyle raced each other top to bottom... everyone else warmed up... And then again, people split into their own sub groups and rode together... This day everyone seemed to become more comfortable with their riding, and start to push the limits more and more..
Kyle and Johnny headed over and biked down the slab... Johnny making it, Kyle not so much...
The end of this day, everyone pretty much ended up in the water park acting like children... flipping each other out of tubes, trying to flip tubes going down water slides, getting in trouble by the life guards.....
Day 3... Our final day of riding/water parking... A few people left first thing in the morning, so we were down to Tyler, Emily, Derek, Ann, Moe, Jeff, Chirssy, Karen, Johnny, Bernie and Kyle. Our final group did what seems to be the final for every trip.. end off with a bang.
we started by heading to the hill first thing after breakfast and start with a red diamond run. good way to warm up... then off to the slab... a giant hunk of rock to ride down. Kyle busted a bolt on his bike prior to heading over so off to the water park to drink margaritas... On the slab, Derek took a bit of a tumble... to add insult to injury though the pads that were at the bottom to soften the fall, well he missed it landing on the rocks. Tyler and Johnny headed up to try a double black diamond run. The ride down was fun and interesting to say the least. Some sections a complete riot, others interesting, others painful...
Finished the day off running number 6 top to bottom with Tyler Jeff and Johnny... Other than Jeff pulling a dirty pass on Tyler at the very end of the run, a great way to finish off the riding weekend, with no major injuries to speak of.
Off to the water park for drinks, and the precursor of the evening....
The remaining group decided to pull together a pot luck diner with Jeff manning the deep fryer. Thank you to both Jeff and Chrissy for bringing the deep fryer and letting us throw whatever crap we could think of into it.
We were honored to listen to Ann and the Gritty Kitties play into the night, with guitar and ukulele music. We did shoot some good videos to compile into a short film.
The fire and music went into the wee hours of the morning, with Jeff and Johnny dancing on the van, Johnny and Kyle climbing trees, and the Sound of Music playing.
Day 4.... The trip home was another adventure... we had traffic updates from Derek, Moe and Ann, which helped us avoid any major issues that ways. total travel time home for some of us was 10hrs...
For anyone who was on the trip, we are going to set up a Team Van Go, share point, so everyone can upload and download pictures videos etc. This way we dont have to keep swapping memory cards, cd's etc. Once this is complete an email will go around with instructions on how to get to the site, etc. You will have to probably create a login, but we will see what we can do.
Until Next years Bromont Trip.... I think we can almost be certain of another trip...
